Answer: He was stuffed
Our kids used to have plenty of stuffed animals when they were younger. Even now, they have a couple stuffed video game characters, "ironically" of course.
Explanation for the kids (and bad puns)
Besides the obvious fact the teddy bear is a toy, it's also literally stuffed full of cotton 'stuffing'. Stuffed is an expression that also means you've eaten too much food and don't have any more room or appetite to eat more.
